Ida Wolden Bache

1 November 2022

Norges Bank's role as central bank was first formalised in 1892. Ida Wolden Bache is the 12th in the line of central bank governors since then – including Arnold C. Ræstad, who was based in London during World War II.

Ida Wolden Bache has worked at Norges Bank since 1998, where she held the position of deputy governor amongst others, before being appointed governor in March 2022. She holds that fixed-term position for six years. Wolden Bache holds a Master's degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, as well as a PhD in Economics from the University of Oslo.

She is described as an exceptionally skilled economist, particularly in the field of monetary policy and financial stability. These days, a lot of her job is about the latter; ensuring that inflation does not become too high and unmanageable. Under her leadership, Norges Bank has raised interest rates at a record pace, by 0.5 percentage points at a time. According to the central bank's own forecasts, the key policy rate will be raised several times before peaking around mid-2023.

We are very much looking forward to the Governor presenting at our New Year's Conference 2023.  This is the first time that a sitting central bank governor has been on our speaker list.
